Reinforcements Are Here: Overshown and Durant Return to Christian Parker's Defense

By , Cowboys of Dallas ·

Cowboys Nation, it's been a long month of reading injury reports. This week, the defense finally got some good news.

Our Take: Getting DeMarvion Overshown and Cobie Durant back won't fix everything, but it gives Christian Parker real help at the spots that have been bleeding. The reinforcements are here, and the defense needed them.

Per DallasCowboys.com, Overshown and Durant both practiced fully this week, on more than one occasion, and enter Monday night with no game designation, meaning they are cleared medically and available to play. Durant was hurt in the Week 2 win over the Commanders and missed four games. Brian Schottenheimer said earlier in the week that Durant was "trending to play."

The timing matters. Saturday's injury report ruled out KaVontae Turpin, Dee Winters and Drew Shelton, while Marist Liufau and PJ Locke were listed as questionable and could be activated off injured reserve.

The run defense is where the return could show up first. As collected in the Blogging The Boys daily roundup, Yahoo Sports notes the 2-4 Cowboys have allowed 899 rushing yards, the most in the NFL, at 4.7 yards per carry. The same piece points out Dallas did hold Green Bay to 57 rushing yards on 26 carries in the 23-13 loss at Lambeau, so the blueprint is there.

What to watch: How much Overshown plays in his first game back. If he's flying to the ball early, Parker's defense can finally play downhill again.
