Joey Porter Jr. Is Questionable — and Dallas Says It Is Not About His Contract
Cowboys Nation, the newest corner is back on the injury report — and the rumor mill is already spinning.
Our Take: Believe the ankle until Sunday night proves otherwise. Dallas needs Joey Porter Jr. at Lambeau, and the team is saying out loud that this is not a contract hold-in.
The Cowboys listed Porter Jr. as questionable for Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers with an ankle injury, per the team's official Week 6 injury report and DallasCowboys.com. He practiced limited Wednesday, full Thursday, then limited again Friday after rolling the ankle in practice, according to reporting from NFL insider Ed Werder.
That timeline flipped the script from midweek, when Porter told the team site he was aiming for a full workload with no pitch count. He has played only one game for Dallas since the Steelers trade — 25 of 52 defensive snaps in the Houston win — and missed the Buccaneers loss after an illness on gameday.
Contract chatter followed him from Pittsburgh. Stephen Jones shut it down on 105.3 The Fan, telling the station via The Athletic's Jon Machota: "I think he's all in. He wants to be out there." Werder separately reported that a source involved said Porter is hoping to play and that his game status has nothing to do with his contract.
Also questionable: DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring), Ameer Speed, and L.T. Overton. Cobie Durant and Drew Shelton are out.
What to watch: whether Porter is active at Lambeau. If he sits, the noise gets louder. If he plays, the secondary finally gets the piece Jerry Jones traded for.
