Joe Milton Heads to Philly as Eagles Raid the Cowboys' Practice Squad

Dallas just lost a quarterback it was stashing.

The Eagles signed Joe Milton III off the Cowboys' practice squad on Friday and put him on their 53-man roster. Philadelphia needed a body after Jalen Hurts was ruled out for Sunday against Carolina with a superficial blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee will start, and Milton slides in behind him.

Our Take: You can't blame Milton for taking a roster spot and a paycheck. He was Dak Prescott's backup in 2025 and had a strong preseason this summer, 29 of 43 for 378 yards, three touchdowns and no picks. But Sam Howell won the QB2 job, Dallas waived Milton at cutdowns and brought him back on the practice squad, which left the door open for any team to grab him. It's the price of keeping a live arm off the 53.

For the Cowboys, it means the emergency depth behind Dak and Howell just got thinner. Expect Dallas to look for another practice-squad arm this week.

What to watch: whether Milton sees the field for Philly while Hurts is out.
